Getting There

  • Public Transportation

    From Musashi, take the JR Chuo Line towards Tokyo. Get off at Takao Station (高尾駅), which is about a 30-minute ride. Once you arrive at Takao Station, follow the signs to the north exit. From the north exit, you will see a bus terminal and a short walk leads you to the base of Mount Takao. There are clear signs indicating the starting point of the hiking trails. Note that the bus from Takao Station to the Mt. Takao cable car station is an additional cost, typically around 300 yen.

  • Car

    If you are driving from Musashi, take the Chuo Expressway (中央自動車道). Follow the signs towards Hachioji and exit at the Takao IC (高尾インターチェンジ). From the exit, follow the local roads signs for Mount Takao. There is a car park available near the base of the mountain; however, parking fees are typically around 1000 yen for the day. Be sure to check the parking availability as it can fill up quickly on weekends.
