Getting There

Bus
From Nara Station, head to the Nara Kotsu Bus Terminal located just outside the station. Take the 'Nara City Loop Bus' (also known as the Nara Sightseeing Bus) and get off at 'Nara Park'. From there, transfer to the 'Kyoto Bus' heading to Ryoan-ji. It should take approximately 45 minutes. Once you arrive at the Ryoan-ji stop, walk for about 5 minutes to reach Ryōan-ji Temple, which will be on your left.

Train
From Nara Station, take the Kintetsu Nara Line towards Kyoto. Change trains at Kyoto Station to the JR Sagano Line (Sanin Main Line) towards Saga-Arashiyama. Get off at 'Ryoan-ji' Station. The temple is about a 15-minute walk from the station. Exit the station and head north, following the signs towards Ryoan-ji.

Bicycle
If you prefer cycling, you can rent a bicycle from one of the rental shops near Nara Park. Head west towards Kyoto, following the scenic route via the river. The ride will take about an hour. Once you arrive in Kyoto, follow signs to Ryoan-ji, which is located at 13 Ryoanji Goryonoshitacho. The temple is well-signposted from major roads.

If you enjoy walking and are up for a bit of an adventure, you can walk from Nara to Kyoto. The distance is approximately 40 km, and it can take around 8-10 hours. Start from Nara Park and follow the path leading towards Kyoto. It's advisable to take a map or GPS, as the route may take you through residential areas and parks.
