Bus
From Nara Park, walk to the nearest bus stop, Nara Kintetsu Station. Take the Kintetsu bus bound for Kyoto Station (approximately 45 minutes). Get off at Kyoto Station and transfer to the Kyoto City Bus (number 100 or 206) towards Gion. Get off at the 'Shirakawa Minami' stop, then walk about 10 minutes northeast to reach Toyokuni Shrine at 530 Chayacho, Higashiyama Ward.
Train
From Nara Station, take the Kintetsu Nara Line train towards Kyoto Station (about 40 minutes). At Kyoto Station, transfer to the subway and take the Karasuma Line to Shijo Station. From Shijo Station, exit and walk east towards the Gion area. Continue walking along Shijo-dori until you reach the intersection with Higashiyama-dori, then turn left. Walk for about 15 minutes until you arrive at Toyokuni Shrine at 530 Chayacho, Higashiyama Ward.
Walking
If you're already in central Nara, start from Nara Park. Walk towards Nara Kintetsu Station and head to the bus terminal. Take a bus to Kyoto as mentioned above or, for a longer scenic route, walk towards the Kamo River, enjoying the views along the way. Once you reach the river, head north until you reach the city center of Kyoto. From there, follow the instructions for the bus or train above to reach Toyokuni Shrine.
