Discover more about Mount Rokkō

Mount Rokkō, towering over Kobe, is not a single mountain but a range of granite mountains stretching 56 km. Its highest point, Rokkōsan-Saikōhō, reaches 931 meters, offering panoramic views of Kobe and Osaka. The mountains have a rich history, considered sacred in ancient times and later developed as a recreational retreat for expats in the late 1800s. During the Edo period, extensive logging denuded the mountains, but reforestation efforts from the Meiji era onwards restored its lush greenery. In 1895, English trader Arthur H. Groom recognized the area's potential and established a summer house, contributing to its development as a leisure destination. He also opened the first golf course in Japan on Mount Rokko in 1903. Today, Mount Rokkō is part of the Setonaikai National Park, offering diverse attractions. Visitors can explore the Rokko Alpine Botanical Garden, home to 1,500 alpine plants, or the Rokko International Music Box Museum. The Rokko Garden Terrace features shops, restaurants, and observation decks with breathtaking views. For outdoor enthusiasts, there are hiking trails and Rokko Athletic Park GREENIA. The mountain is easily accessible via cable car and ropeway, making it a convenient escape from the city.
