Sarusawa-ike Pond, located in Nara Park, is a picturesque and historically significant site. Created in 749 as part of Kōfuku-ji Temple's grounds, the pond offers a tranquil escape with stunning views. The reflection of Kōfuku-ji's five-story pagoda on the water's surface is particularly captivating and has been celebrated as one of the Eight Views of Nara. The pond is also known for its legends, most notably the tragic tale of Uneme, a court lady who drowned herself in the pond after losing the Emperor's favor. Visitors can enjoy leisurely walks around the pond, taking in the natural beauty and observing the turtles and herons that frequent the area. Cherry blossoms in spring and colorful foliage in autumn enhance the pond's charm. Benches surround the pond, providing a place to relax and appreciate the scenery.
