Tsutenkaku Tower, meaning "Tower Reaching Heaven", is a beloved landmark in Osaka's retro Shinsekai district. The original tower, constructed in 1912, was inspired by the Eiffel Tower and Arc de Triomphe in Paris and stood at 64 meters, making it one of the tallest structures in Asia at the time. It quickly became a symbol of pride for Osaka, attracting visitors from all over. The tower was connected to Luna Park via a cable car, creating a popular entertainment hub. In 1943, a fire severely damaged the original Tsutenkaku, and it was dismantled during World War II. However, the citizens of Osaka rallied to rebuild their beloved tower, and in 1956, the second Tsutenkaku was erected. Designed by Tachu Naito, who also designed Tokyo Tower, the new tower stands at 103 meters. Today, Tsutenkaku Tower offers visitors a chance to experience Osaka's history and culture. The observation deck provides stunning panoramic views of the city, including landmarks like Abeno Harukas. Inside the tower, you'll find exhibits, souvenir shops, and the popular Billiken statue, said to bring good luck to those who rub its feet. The tower also features a thrilling slide that spirals down from the third floor to the basement. At night, the tower is illuminated with colorful LED lights that change with the seasons, adding to the lively atmosphere of Shinsekai.
