Discover more about Sado nishimikawa gold park

Sado Nishimikawa Gold Park offers a unique opportunity to step back in time and experience the excitement of gold panning in a historically significant location. Situated on the site of the Nishimikawa Gold Mine, believed to be the oldest gold mine in Japan, dating back to the Heian Era (794-1185), the park provides a hands-on experience for visitors of all ages. The Nishimikawa Gold Mine's development began around 1460, during the Sengoku Era, and the gold extracted became a vital source of currency and was used to support military efforts. Although the mine's peak production occurred in the 16th and 17th centuries, it eventually closed in 1872. Today, visitors can try their luck at gold panning, using the same techniques employed by miners centuries ago. The park features courses for all skill levels, from beginner to advanced. The advanced course allows you to pan for gold in a real river. Any gold found can be made into a souvenir pendant or phone strap for an additional fee. The park also includes an exhibition room where you can learn about the history of gold mining and view related artifacts. A souvenir shop offers original goods, including sweets and jewelry. Sado Nishimikawa Gold Park is more than just a tourist attraction; it's a living museum that brings the history of gold mining to life. It provides an engaging and educational experience for anyone interested in the history of Sado Island and the enduring appeal of gold.
