Getting There

  • Car

    From Awa-Ikeda Interchange (Ikawa-Ikeda IC), take National Route 32 towards Kochi. Then, take Prefectural Road 5 and the Woodland Path Ikeda-Shitsukawa to Kurozo Marshland. The journey takes approximately 45 minutes, covering 18km. Parking is free.

  • Public Transport

    From Awa-Ikeda Bus Terminal, take the Miyoshi Municipal Bus bound for Shitsukawa Hachiman Jinja-mae. Get off at the Shitsukawa Hachiman Jinja-mae Bus Stop, from where it is a 60-minute walk to Kurozo Marshland. Bus fare is approximately ¥500.

Kurozo Marshland, often called 'Shikoku no Oze,' is a captivating natural treasure located in the mountains of Miyoshi, Tokushima Prefecture. Designated as a prefectural natural monument, the marshland spans 26.7 hectares and sits at an elevation of 550 meters, nestled between the Yoshino and Iya rivers. The marsh is home to a diverse array of rare aquatic plants, including ohmizugoke moss, fringed orchids, pogonia orchids, water lilies, sundews (carnivorous plants), and Cirsium sieboldii thistles. In spring, white water lilies bloom, creating a picturesque scene. Visitors can explore the marsh via well-maintained wooden boardwalks that wind through the soft, flooded landscape. An observation tower offers panoramic views of the marsh and surrounding mountains. Beyond the boardwalks, paths lead to Tabinoshiri Waterfall, wooded trails, and a bird-watching building. A hike down from the marsh will lead you to Matsuogawa Onsen, a bathhouse with hot spring waters. The area is rich in wildlife, with birdsong filling the air. The marsh provides a tranquil environment, ideal for escaping the crowds and enjoying nature.
