Sapporo TV Tower: A Bird's-Eye View of the City

Experience panoramic views of Sapporo from the iconic TV Tower, a landmark in Odori Park since 1957.

4.1

Rising 147.2 meters above Odori Park, the Sapporo TV Tower provides an unmatched perspective of Sapporo. Designed by architect Tachu Naito, who also designed the Tokyo Tower, the tower was erected in 1957 as a television signal tower. The observation deck, standing 90.38 meters above ground, provides a 360-degree panoramic view of Sapporo. To the west, visitors can see Mount Teine and the Okurayama Ski Jump Stadium, while the east offers views of the Toyohira River and Ishikari Plain. During the Sapporo Snow Festival and White Illumination, the tower provides a prime viewing spot for these events. For thrill-seekers, the "Kowaso" (Thrill Window) offers a unique photo opportunity with its outward tilt. Inside the tower, visitors can find souvenir shops and restaurants, including a gourmet court in the basement that connects to the Aurora Town underground shopping street. The tower is illuminated from sundown to midnight, with its digital clocks, installed in 1961, adding to its charm. These clocks were donated by Matsushita Electric Industrial Co. and have been updated with LED lights. The tower also has a family of mascots, including TV Dad, Mom, Grandma, Grandpa, Taro, and Hanako. For special occasions, the observation deck can be reserved for private use after hours, offering couples a romantic setting with wine, special illuminations, and a personalized welcome display.
