Getting there

Ferry

To reach the Hakamagoshi-Karasujima Lava Trail, start by taking the Sakurajima Ferry from Kagoshima Port. Ferries depart every 15-20 minutes and the ride takes approximately 15 minutes. The one-way fare is 250 yen for adults. Cars can be taken on the ferry for an additional fee. From Sakurajima Port, the lava trail is approximately a 15-minute drive.

Bus

From Sakurajima Port, take the Sakurajima Island View Bus. This loop bus departs every 30 minutes and stops at major attractions around Sakurajima. The fare depends on the distance traveled, or you can purchase a one-day pass for 500 yen. From the Sakurajima Port to the trail is about 15 minutes by car.

Walking

From Sakurajima Port, the Hakamagoshi-Karasujima Lava Trail is about a 10-minute walk. Follow the signs from the Sakurajima Ferry Terminal. There are also short cycling routes available near the ferry terminal.
