If you are driving to Shima Onsen, take Route 353 from Nakanojo. From Nakanojo Station, head northeast on Route 353 for approximately 9 kilometers. The scenic drive will take you through beautiful countryside, and you will see signs for Shima Onsen. Once you reach the area, look for parking signs; there are various parking lots available near the onsen. Be aware that parking may incur a small fee, typically around 500 to 1,000 yen.
Public Transportation - Bus
For those using public transportation, start at Nakanojo Station, which is accessible via the JR Agatsuma Line. From Nakanojo Station, take the bus bound for Shima Onsen. The bus ride takes approximately 25 minutes and costs around 600 yen. Make sure to check the bus schedule ahead of time, as the frequency may vary. The bus will drop you off at the Shima Onsen bus stop, from which you can easily walk to the onsen facilities.
Public Transportation - Train and Bus
If you are coming from further away, take the JR Agatsuma Line to Nakanojo Station. From major cities like Tokyo, you can take the Shinkansen (bullet train) to Takasaki Station, then transfer to the JR Agatsuma Line. After reaching Nakanojo Station, follow the instructions above for taking the bus to Shima Onsen. The total travel time from Tokyo may take around 3 to 4 hours, depending on connections.
