If you are driving to Karamon Gate in Nikko, start by getting on Route 119 from Shimotsuke. Follow the signs for Nikko. The drive will take approximately 30-40 minutes depending on traffic. Continue along Route 119 until you reach the main intersection in Nikko, then turn left onto Route 460. After about 5 minutes, keep an eye out for the entrance to Rinno-ji Temple on your right. Karamon Gate is located within the temple grounds. Parking is available near the entrance.
Public Transportation
To reach Karamon Gate using public transport, start by taking the Tobu Nikko Line from Shimotsuke-Tamagawa Station. Board a train heading to Tobu-Nikko Station. The journey takes about 30 minutes. Once you arrive at Tobu-Nikko Station, exit the station and head to the bus terminal located just outside. Take the bus bound for 'Rinno-ji Temple'. The bus ride will last about 10 minutes. Get off at the 'Rinno-ji Temple' stop, and you will find Karamon Gate within the temple grounds.
