Getting There

  • Public Transport

    From JR Shizuoka Station North Exit, take the Shizutetsu Justline bus towards Fujieda Station on the Chubu National Route Line. Get off at the Togeppo Takumishuku Entrance bus stop. The ride takes approximately 30 minutes. From there, it's a brisk five-minute walk to Sumpu Takumishuku. A one-day pass for Shizuoka Railway and most Shizutetsu buses is available for ¥1600. Single bus fares typically cost a few hundred yen.

  • Taxi

    Taxis are available from Shizuoka Station. The ride to Sumpu Takumishuku takes approximately 15 minutes. Taxi fares may vary depending on traffic conditions, but a typical fare from Shizuoka Station to Sumpu Takumishuku is estimated to be between ¥2,500 and ¥3,500.

  • Driving

    If driving, look for the sign 駿府匠宿入口 "Sumpu Takumishuku Entrance" on National Route 1. From the Shizutetsu Expressway Bypass, the facility is just 200 meters east of the Mariko IC exit. From the Tomei Expressway, it's about 7 km (a 15-minute drive) from the Shizuoka IC. Free parking is available at Sumpu Takumishuku. There are separate parking areas for large vehicles and standard automobiles. Parking fee is ¥410.

The facility introduces the traditional industries and history of Shizuoka City, which originated in the Imagawa and Tokugawa eras. The roots of many traditional crafts in Shizuoka stem from the construction of the Sengen Shrine in Sumpu during the Edo period. Skilled artisans gathered from all over the country and, after the shrine's completion, they stayed in the area and continued to produce art, enriching Japanese lives with their skills and traditions. At the Sumpu Craft Hall, visitors can learn about the history of traditional crafts and view exhibitions of highly skilled artisans. Sumpu Takumishuku offers a variety of craft experiences, such as Suruga bamboo crafts, Japanese dyeing, woodwork, lacquer, and ceramics. Popular crafts include Suruga bamboo ware, Hina dolls, and Suruga Japanese dyeing. You can also explore the Plastic Model workshop supervised by Tamiya Corporation, a leader in Shizuoka's signature local industries. After a workshop or tour, relax at Café HACHI & MITSU, which offers dishes, beverages, and desserts featuring local Mariko honey and other locally sourced ingredients. The COTOCOTO store offers a selection of Shizuoka's finest products, including local specialties and souvenirs.
