Overview

Ana-hachimangu Shrine, located in Shinjuku City, Tokyo, is a Shinto shrine with a rich history dating back to 1062. Founded when Minamoto no Yoshiie worshipped Hachiman in the area, the shrine is believed to bring good fortune, financial luck, and business prosperity. The shrine got its name from the discovery of a tunnel tomb in 1641, which contained a gilt bronze statue of Amida Nyorai. The shrine is known for its 'ichiyo raifuku omamori,' a charm available during the winter solstice, believed to bring good luck and business success. These charms are placed on a room's wall facing the 'ehou,' the lucky direction of the year, at midnight on the winter solstice, New Year's Eve, or Setsubun. Ana Hachimangu Shrine also hosts Takadanobaba Yabusame, a horseback archery demonstration, every year on Sports Day.Visitors are greeted by a striking vermilion torii gate, a symbol of cultural heritage. The main hall showcases elegant wooden structures harmonizing with the natural landscape. Visitors can participate in rituals, make offerings, and purchase omamori.
