Mejiro Garden Travel Guide

Mejiro Garden, also known as Toshima Ward Mejiro Garden, is a beautiful Japanese garden located in the quiet residential area of Mejiro in Toshima City. Designed in the kaiyu (scenic promenade) style, it invites visitors to stroll and discover its various elements. The garden opened to the public in 1990 and was built on the site of a former private residence.The garden's central feature is a pond surrounded by a walking path made of stepping stones. Along the path, visitors can find tile-roofed wooden tea-ceremony buildings built in the skillful Japanese architectural style, such as the “Akatorian” and “Rokkaku Ukimido”. The teahouse, Akatori-an, is named after the magazine Akai-tori, which was first published in the area. It serves as a resting place and is also used for haiku and tea ceremonies.Mejiro Garden is known for its seasonal beauty, with cherry blossoms in the spring and vibrant autumn leaves in the fall. From late November to early December, the fall foliage is illuminated at night. The garden is conveniently located near Mejiro Station on the JR Yamanote line, making it easily accessible. It is also free of charge, making it a great option for those on a budget.
