Verny Park: A French Oasis Overlooking Naval History

Verny Park, located in Yokosuka, Kanagawa Prefecture, is a unique urban oasis that blends French garden aesthetics with a backdrop of naval history. The park is named in honor of François Léonce Verny, a French naval engineer who significantly contributed to Japan's modernization during the late 19th century. Originally opened in 1946 and revamped in 2001, Verny Park offers visitors a tranquil escape with a touch of French elegance. The park's design incorporates elements of a traditional French garden, including meticulously arranged flowerbeds, a charming gazebo, and a central fountain. The highlight of the park is its stunning rose garden, boasting approximately 1,300 to 2,000 rose bushes representing around 130 to 160 different species.
