Discover more about Tango Matsushima

Tango Matsushima offers a breathtaking panorama of the jagged coastline stretching towards Cape Kyoga, creating a stunning silhouette against the morning and evening light. The area earns its name from its visual similarity to the famed Matsushima in Miyagi Prefecture, one of Japan's celebrated 'Three Views'. This coastal vantage point has also been selected as one of Kyoto's Best 200 Natural Sites. Visitors can enjoy the view from an observation deck located near the Inugasaki Bridge along National Route 178. The adjacent Hei Beach is a popular summer destination. The area is part of the Tango Peninsula Coast Area within the Tango-Amanohashidate-Oeyama Quasi-National Park. The cape itself is made of andesite and is called Inugasaki (Dog Cape) because its shape resembles a crouching dog. Nearby, the Sodeshi Rice Terraces offer another scenic attraction, recognized as one of Japan's top 100 rice terraces.
