Getting There

Car
If you're traveling by car, start from Sendai City, the closest major city. Take the Tohoku Expressway (東北自動車道) and head towards Yamagata. Exit at the Katta IC (加太IC) and follow the signs for Zao and Togattaonsen. Continue on Route 457, which will lead you to the Okama parking area. The drive takes approximately 1.5 hours. Note that parking fees at Okama may apply, generally around 500 to 1000 JPY.

Public Transportation
From Sendai Station, take the JR Shiroishi-Zao Line to Shiroishi Station (白石駅). The journey takes about 50 minutes. Once you arrive at Shiroishi Station, take a bus bound for Togattaonsen (湯川温泉) which will take approximately 30 minutes. From there, it's about a 20-minute walk to the Okama trailhead. Make sure to check the bus schedule ahead of time, as it may not run frequently.
