Asakusa Hanayashiki, located in Tokyo's historic Asakusa district, holds the distinction of being Japan's oldest amusement park. Founded in 1853 as a flower garden by Morita Rokusaburo during the Edo period, it was initially a place to admire peonies and chrysanthemums. The name 'Hanayashiki' translates to 'Flowery Mansion'. In 1872, the garden began its transformation into an amusement facility, showcasing animals and other attractions. After facing closures due to earthquakes and war, it was rebuilt and reopened as a small-scale amusement park in 1949. The Yomiuri Rocket Coaster, now known as Roller Coaster, began operation in 1953 and is still the oldest operating roller coaster in Japan.Today, Asakusa Hanayashiki offers a nostalgic experience with a variety of attractions, including a small Ferris wheel, a drop tower called 'Space Shot', a haunted house, and gentler rides for children. The park also features a 'Super-dimensional Game Zone' with festival-style games and photo booths, including the 'Sky Plaza' offering views of Asakusa and the Tokyo Skytree. The park's mascot is the 'Panda Car', a rideable stuffed panda. Visitors can also enjoy ninja training experiences and tea ceremonies near the park.
