Higashi Hongan-ji, also known as the Eastern Monastery of the Original Vow, is a Jodo Shinshu Buddhist temple located in the Nishi-Asakusa area of Tokyo. While many associate Higashi Hongan-ji with the larger temple complex in Kyoto, this Asakusa branch offers its own unique charm and historical significance.Founded in the 17th century by Tokugawa Ieyasu, the temple was initially located in Kanda before being moved to Asakusa after fires at Kanda Myojin Shrine. The current building, reconstructed in 1965, provides a peaceful space for reflection and appreciation of Buddhist architecture.
