Discover more about Todoroki Ravine Park

Todoroki Ravine Park, or Todoroki Valley Park, is a unique natural escape located in the densely populated Setagaya ward of Tokyo. As the only ravine in Tokyo's 23 wards, it offers a refreshing contrast to the city's concrete landscape. The park features a roughly one-kilometer-long walking trail that winds through a narrow, wooded valley alongside the Yazawa River. The valley was formed by the erosion of the Musashino Plateau by the Yazawa River over many years. As you descend into the ravine, the temperature noticeably drops, and the sounds of the city fade away, replaced by the gentle rush of the river. The path leads you past several points of interest, including the iconic red Golf Bridge, named after a former golf course in the area. Further along, you'll discover small shrines, the Fudo-no-Taki waterfall (historically used for ascetic practices), and even a 7th-century tunnel tomb. At the end of the valley, you'll find Todoroki Fudoson Temple, a historic site with roots dating back over 1,300 years. The temple grounds offer beautiful views, especially during cherry blossom season and autumn when the leaves change color. Nearby, the Setsugekka teahouse provides a place to rest and enjoy traditional sweets. The park also includes a Japanese garden with bamboo groves, offering a peaceful spot for relaxation and picnics. While much of the park is well-maintained, it retains a natural, untamed feel, making it a favorite among locals seeking a break from urban life. The park's blend of natural beauty and cultural landmarks provides a unique and enriching experience for visitors. **Important Note:** As of July 2025, the Todoroki Valley promenade is closed due to tree removal work and is expected to reopen in fiscal year 2025. However, visitors can still access Todoroki Fudoson temple, the tea house and the Japanese garden via the southern or temple entrance.
