Train
If you are in central Tokyo, make your way to Ueno Station. Take the JR Yamanote Line (the green line) towards Ikebukuro. After two stops, get off at Nippori Station. Once you arrive at Nippori, transfer to the JR Keihin-Tohoku Line and take the train heading towards Omiya. Get off at the next station, which is Nishi-Nippori Station. From Nishi-Nippori Station, take the East Japan Railway (JR) Yamanote Line towards Tokyo and get off at the next station, which is Yanaka Station. Once you arrive at Yanaka Station, exit the station and you will be in the Yanaka district.
Subway
If you are near Tokyo Station, head to the Tokyo Metro Marunouchi Line and take the train towards Ikebukuro. Change at Shinjuku Station to the Toei Oedo Line, and take the train towards Roppongi. Get off at the next stop, which is Nishi-Shinjuku Station. From there, walk to the East exit and transfer to the Toei Shinjuku Line. Take the train heading to Takadanobaba and get off at the next stop, which is Yanaka Station. After exiting Yanaka Station, you will be in the vicinity of the Yanaka area.
