To reach Jakoshi Observatory via public transport, head to Yufuin Station. From the station, take a local bus bound for the 'Yufuin Onsen' area. The bus ride lasts about 15 minutes. Get off at the 'Kawanishi' bus stop. From there, it's a 20-minute walk to the observatory. Follow the signs leading towards the observatory, and be prepared for a slight uphill trek. Bus tickets from Oita to Yufuin cost approximately $34 to $36. Train tickets from Oita to Yufuin cost approximately $65.

If you are near the Yufuin Floral Village or the Yufuin Art Museum, you can walk to Jakoshi Observatory. Head north towards Yufuincho Kawanishi, following the main road.
