Getting there

Public Transport

To reach Jakoshi Observatory via public transport, head to Yufuin Station. From the station, take a local bus bound for the 'Yufuin Onsen' area. The bus ride lasts about 15 minutes. Get off at the 'Kawanishi' bus stop. From there, it's a 20-minute walk to the observatory. Follow the signs leading towards the observatory, and be prepared for a slight uphill trek. Bus tickets from Oita to Yufuin cost approximately $34 to $36. Train tickets from Oita to Yufuin cost approximately $65.

Walking

If you are near the Yufuin Floral Village or the Yufuin Art Museum, you can walk to Jakoshi Observatory. Head north towards Yufuincho Kawanishi, following the main road. It should take about 25-30 minutes on foot. The path is scenic, with beautiful views of the surrounding mountains. Make sure to wear comfortable shoes, as the terrain can be uneven.

Car

If you are driving from the center of Yufuin, head north on Route 210 towards Yufuincho Kawanishi. After about 5 minutes, you will see signs for Jakoshi Observatory. Follow the signs for Yufuincho Kawanishi. There is parking available near the observatory, but be mindful of any parking fees that may apply.
