Discover more about St Brelade

St Brelade, nestled on Jersey's southwestern coast, is more than just a scenic parish; it's a tapestry of history, natural beauty, and vibrant community life. The parish derives its name from the 6th-century Celtic saint, Branwalader, also known as St. Brelade. The heart of St Brelade is undoubtedly St Brelade's Bay, consistently ranked among the best beaches in the UK. Its golden sands and clear, shallow waters make it ideal for families and sunbathers. The palm-lined promenade buzzes with cafes, bars, and restaurants, offering delightful seaside dining experiences. For the adventurous, water sports abound, from kayaking and paddleboarding to surfing and rib tours. Dominating the bay is the Parish Church of St Brelade, an ancient structure with a rich history. Its unique location, set away from the main population center, is attributed to local folklore involving mischievous fairies. Adjacent to the church lies the Fisherman's Chapel, one of the few surviving medieval chapels in the Channel Islands, adorned with remarkable medieval frescoes. Beyond the bay, St Brelade offers more to explore. La Corbière Lighthouse, perched on a tidal island, stands as a testament to British maritime history. Sir Winston Churchill Memorial Park provides a tranquil green space with floral displays and a memorial statue. History enthusiasts can delve into WWII history at the M-132 Underground Command Bunker and Battery Lothringen. Whether seeking relaxation on pristine beaches, historical exploration, or outdoor adventures, St Brelade offers a quintessential Jersey experience.
