Getting There

• Car

  If you are traveling by car, start your journey from the city of Karaganda. Head east on the A16 highway towards the town of Balkhash. The drive will take approximately 3 hours (around 230 km). Once you reach Balkhash, follow the signs towards Lake Balkhash. The lake is located just a few kilometers south of the town center. Ensure you have a map application handy for navigation as some parts of the route may not be well-marked.

• Public Transportation - Bus

  Take a bus from Karaganda to Balkhash. Buses run regularly from the central bus station in Karaganda. The journey takes about 3.5 to 4 hours. Once you arrive in Balkhash, you can take a taxi or walk south towards Lake Balkhash, which is approximately 5 km from the bus station. Make sure to check the bus schedules in advance, as they may vary.

• Taxi

  If you prefer a more direct route or are arriving at Balkhash by bus, consider taking a taxi. Taxis are available at the bus station, and the fare to Lake Balkhash should be around 1000 to 1500 KZT (Kazakhstani Tenge). The trip will take about 10-15 minutes.

  For those who prefer more flexibility, you can rent a car in Karaganda or Balkhash. Rental companies are available in both cities. Ensure you have a valid driving license and check for insurance coverage. Driving from Karaganda to Lake Balkhash will take approximately 3 hours. Follow the same route as described for personal car travel.
