Car
If you're traveling by car, head towards the city of Almaty as your starting point. From Almaty, take the A2 highway heading northeast. This scenic route will take you approximately 3-4 hours, covering a distance of about 300 km. Keep an eye out for road signs directing you towards Tamgaly. Once you reach the Tamgaly area, follow the signs to the petroglyphs and Tanbaly, which will be located at RG4Q+MJC. Parking is available near the site.
Bus
For those utilizing public transportation, begin at the Central Bus Station in Almaty. You can take a bus heading towards the city of Taldykorgan. The bus ride usually takes around 4-5 hours. Once you arrive at Taldykorgan, you'll need to transfer to a minibus (marshrutka) heading towards Tamgaly. This second leg of your journey will take about 1-1.5 hours. Be sure to confirm with the driver that they are stopping at the Tanbaly petroglyph site (RG4Q+MJC). The total cost for the bus and minibus fares should be around 2000-3000 KZT.
Taxi/Ride-Sharing
If you prefer a more direct approach, consider booking a taxi or using a ride-sharing app from Almaty to Tanbaly. This option is the quickest but also the most expensive, typically ranging from 7000-10000 KZT. The ride will take about 3 hours, and you can request the driver to take you directly to the petroglyph site at RG4Q+MJC.
