If you're driving from Aktau, head southeast on A-130 road towards Zhanaozen. Continue on this road for about 150 kilometers until you reach the village of Shetpe. From Shetpe, take the local road heading northeast towards Sherkala. The last part of the journey involves driving through a more rugged terrain, so a 4x4 vehicle is recommended. Follow the signs to Sherkala, which is located approximately 40 kilometers from Shetpe. The road will lead you to the base of the mountain where you can find parking.
Public Transportation
To reach Sherkala using public transportation, take a bus from Aktau to Zhanaozen. Buses leave regularly from the central bus station and the journey takes about 2-3 hours. Once in Zhanaozen, you will need to take a taxi or a local minibus to Shetpe. From Shetpe, hire a taxi to take you to Sherkala. Make sure to negotiate the fare beforehand; it should cost approximately 3000-5000 KZT. The taxi will take you to the foot of Sherkala.
Hiking
If you're feeling adventurous and are already near Sherkala, consider hiking up to the mountain. The trail starts at the parking area and is well-marked. The hike should take about 1-2 hours, depending on your fitness level. Make sure to wear sturdy hiking boots and bring plenty of water, as there are no facilities on the mountain.
