Car
If you're traveling by car, start from Moshi or Arusha. From Moshi, take the A23 road heading towards Arusha. After about 30 km, take the exit for the B1 road towards Himo. Continue on the B1 for approximately 17 km until you reach Gatare. Look for signs towards Elephant Hill. The entrance to the hiking area is on the left side of the road. Ensure you have a GPS or map application handy for precise navigation, as the area can be a bit tricky.
Public Transportation
From Moshi, board a matatu (shared taxi) towards Himo. The fare is usually around 1,500 TZS (Tanzanian Shillings). Inform the driver you're going to Gatare. The journey will take about 30-45 minutes. Once you arrive in Gatare, you may need to walk a short distance to the entrance of Elephant Hill, which is approximately 1 km away. Be prepared to negotiate with local taxi drivers if you need a ride to the trailhead.
Hiking
If you're already in Gatare, you can hike to Elephant Hill from the center of town. It's about a 2-hour hike to the summit of the hill.
