Getting there

Bicycle

Starting from central Malindi, rent a bicycle from one of the local rental shops. Head towards the Malindi Marine National Park entrance. From there, follow the coastal road south until you reach the junction with the road leading towards the Athi River Estuary. The estuary is located approximately 4 km from the national park entrance. The route is scenic, and you'll pass several local shops and beaches along the way. Once you reach the R4JV+CM5 area, look for signs or locals to guide you to the estuary.

Walking

If you prefer to walk, begin your journey in Malindi town and head towards the beach. Walk along the coastline heading south until you reach the entrance of the Malindi Marine National Park. Continue walking along the coastal path past the park until you reach the junction with the road leading to the Athi River Estuary, which is about a 4 km walk. The path is generally safe and offers beautiful views of the ocean. Once you arrive at the R4JV+CM5 area, you may ask locals for precise directions to the estuary.

Tuk-tuk

From any point in Malindi, find a tuk-tuk (a three-wheeled motor vehicle commonly used for short distances). Tell the driver you want to go to the Athi River Estuary, or provide them with the address R4JV+CM5. The ride should take around 15-20 minutes depending on traffic. Enjoy the local sights along the way!

Public Bus

Catch a local bus from the main bus station in Malindi. Buses frequently run towards the south coast. Ask the conductor for a stop near the Athi River Estuary or R4JV+CM5.
