Getting There

• Public Bus

  From Nakuru town, head to the main bus terminus located at Kenyatta Avenue. Look for buses heading to Lake Elementaita or those labeled ‘Gilgil’. These buses generally leave every 30 minutes. Once you board, confirm with the conductor that they will stop at Lake Elementaita. The ride takes approximately 30-45 minutes. Make sure to enjoy the scenic views along the way.

• Matatu (Shared Taxi)

  At the same bus terminus, find the matatus (shared taxis) that are heading towards Gilgil. The matatu drivers will usually shout their destination, so listen for 'Gilgil' or 'Elementaita'. The fare is quite affordable, and the journey will take about 30-40 minutes. Ask the driver to drop you off at the Lake Elementaita Hot Spring. If you are unsure, you can also ask local passengers for assistance.

• Bicycle Rental

  For those looking for a more active option, consider renting a bicycle in Nakuru. There are several rental shops in town, particularly near the main market. Once you have your bicycle, head out of Nakuru on the Nakuru-Gilgil road. The hot spring is approximately 20 kilometers from the town center. Follow the road signs towards Gilgil and look for the sign pointing to Lake Elementaita. It will take about 1-1.5 hours to cycle there depending on your pace.

  If you’re adventurous and in good physical condition, you can walk to Lake Elementaita. From Nakuru town center, head towards the Nakuru-Gilgil road.
