Getting There

• Car

  If you are traveling by car, start your journey from Kapenguria, which is a central town in the Pokot region. Head northwest on the A1 highway towards Kitale. After approximately 50 kilometers, you will reach a junction where you should take the left turn towards Kapolet. Follow this road for about 20 kilometers until you reach the entrance of Kapolet Forest. Ensure your vehicle is well-maintained as some sections of the road may be rough.

• Public Transportation

  For those opting for public transportation, take a matatu (shared taxi) from Kapenguria to Kitale. The fare is approximately KES 100-150. Once you arrive in Kitale, look for matatus heading towards the Kapolet area. It's important to confirm with the driver that they will drop you off near Kapolet Forest. The fare for this leg of the journey is around KES 200-300. You may need to walk the last section of about 5 kilometers from the drop-off point to the forest entrance.

• Bicycle

  For the more adventurous travelers, consider renting a bicycle in Kapenguria. The route is approximately 70 kilometers to Kapolet Forest, so ensure you are well-prepared with enough water and snacks. Follow the same route as the car guidance, and take breaks as needed, especially in the hot sun. Expect a mixture of paved and unpaved roads.

• Walking

  If you find yourself close to Kapolet Forest and prefer to walk, you can start from the nearest village. Make sure to ask locals for the best path to the forest, as there may not be clearly marked trails. Walking can take several hours, so plan accordingly and start early in the day.
