Walking

From Chao Anouvong Park, walk west along Quai Fa Ngum Road, then turn left onto Rue Pangkham. The fountain will be on your right, a short walk from the main road. This is a straightforward and pleasant walk, allowing you to take in the sights of Vientiane. There is no cost associated with walking.

Vientiane has a city bus network. Check the bus routes from your location to the Central Bus Station (Talat Sao) and then walk a few minutes to Nam Phou Fountain. A single bus fare is approximately 5,000-8,000 LAK. From the Central Bus Station, walk along Rue Pangkham to reach the fountain.

Nam Phou Fountain, known locally as ນໍ້າພຸ, is an iconic landmark situated in the heart of Vientiane, Laos. Dating back to the French colonial era in the 1920s, this fountain has evolved into a symbol of Vientiane's charm and resilience. Originally a public plaza that hosted a fresh market, it has transformed into a popular gathering place for both locals and tourists.Throughout its history, Nam Phou Fountain has undergone several renovations, most notably in 2009 when AIF Group Laos invested 10 billion kip to rebrand the area. In 1975, the fountain was added and a circular path was built around it, and it formally became the Fountain Park in 2000. While the fountain itself may not be overly impressive, its cultural significance and central location make it a worthwhile visit.Today, the area surrounding Nam Phou Fountain is vibrant with activity, offering a variety of options for dining and relaxation. Visitors can enjoy the numerous bars, cafes, and restaurants that line the square, providing a perfect setting for socializing and soaking in the atmosphere.
