Boat
The most common way to reach Pak Ou Caves is by boat from Luang Prabang. Shared boats depart from a pier near Saffron Coffee on Khem Khong Road. The journey upstream takes approximately two hours and offers scenic views of the Mekong River. A shared boat ticket costs around 75,000 to 150,000 Lao Kip per person. Alternatively, you can hire a private boat for around 300,000 to 350,000 Lao Kip, offering more flexibility in departure time and the length of your visit. The entrance fee to the caves is 20,000 Lao Kip per person, payable upon arrival.
Tuk-tuk and Ferry
For a quicker but less scenic route, take a tuk-tuk to Ban Pak Ou, a village opposite the caves. Negotiate the tuk-tuk fare in advance, expect to pay around 200,000 Lao Kip for a return trip from Luang Prabang. From Ban Pak Ou, a local ferry frequently crosses the river to the caves. The ferry costs 10,000 Lao Kip per person.
