Getting there

Ferry

From Luang Prabang, head to the Mekong Riverfront near the Royal Palace. Take the local car ferry across the Mekong River to Ban Xieng Maen. The ferry departs approximately every 10-15 minutes and costs around 5,000 Kip per person. On the other side, follow the signs for about one kilometer, then climb the 123 steps to Wat Chomphet. Entrance to the temple is 20,000 Kip.

Tuk-Tuk

Hire a tuk-tuk from Luang Prabang to the Mekong riverfront. Negotiate a round-trip fare, which should cost approximately $3 USD. The tuk-tuk will drop you off near the ferry. Take the local car ferry across the Mekong River to Ban Xieng Maen. The ferry costs 5,000 Kip per person. Overview

Wat Chomphet, also known as Wat Chom Phet Satni Silimoungknoun Vaxi Alram, is a Buddhist temple located on a hilltop in the Chomphet District, across the Mekong River from Luang Prabang. Constructed in 1888 by the Thai army, the temple provides breathtaking views of Luang Prabang and the Mekong River.To reach the temple, visitors take a short ferry ride across the Mekong River, followed by a walk and a climb of 123 steps to the top of the hill. While the temple itself is relatively simple and has undergone restoration, the panoramic views are the main draw, especially during sunset.Wat Chomphet provides a peaceful escape from the bustling city center and an opportunity to appreciate the natural beauty of the area. The temple grounds offer a glimpse into local life and a chance to explore other nearby temples, such as Wat Xieng Maen and Wat Long Khun.
