Bokeo Nature Reserve, officially named Nam Kan National Protected Area, is located in the Bokeo Province of Laos. Established in 2004, the reserve spans 123,000 hectares of primary forests and mountainous terrain, ranging from 500 to 1500 meters in elevation. The reserve was created to protect the black-cheeked gibbon, a rare species of monkey that was rediscovered in 1997 after being presumed extinct.The Bokeo Nature Reserve is known for its biodiversity and ecotourism opportunities. The landscape features lush rainforests, pristine rivers, and diverse wildlife. Besides the black-cheeked gibbon, the reserve is home to various animals, including Asian elephants, wild water buffalo, bears, tigers, clouded leopards, and hornbills.
