Car
If you are traveling by car, start from Phongsaly Town. Head southwest on Route 1 towards Luang Namtha. After approximately 4 hours of driving, you will reach the XC9M+XP area in Luang Namtha, where the rice fields are located. Make sure to enjoy the scenic views along the way and consider stopping for breaks at local villages.
Public Transportation
To reach the rice fields using public transportation, take a minibus or shared taxi from Phongsaly Town to Luang Namtha. The journey takes about 4 hours. Once you arrive in Luang Namtha, you can hire a local tuk-tuk or motorbike taxi to take you to the XC9M+XP area where the rice fields are located. The tuk-tuk fare is typically around 30,000 LAK (approximately $3 USD).
Walking
If you are already in Luang Namtha and prefer to walk, you can head towards the XC9M+XP area. It is approximately a 30-minute walk from the town center. Follow the main road southwest until you reach the rice fields. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes and bring water for the walk.
