Buddha Park: A Mystical Sculpture Garden

Buddha Park, or Wat Xieng Khouane Luang (Spirit City), is a captivating sculpture park established in 1958 by Luang Pu Bunleua Sulilat. This visionary priest-shaman sought to integrate Hinduism and Buddhism, and the park reflects his unique spiritual philosophy. Located in a meadow by the Mekong River, about 25 kilometers southeast of Vientiane, the park features over 200 statues made of reinforced concrete, giving them the appearance of ancient relics.The sculptures include figures from Buddhist and Hindu traditions, such as Buddha, Shiva, Vishnu, and Arjuna. One of the most prominent features is a massive, 40-meter-long reclining Buddha. Another iconic structure is a large pumpkin-shaped building with three stories representing hell, Earth, and heaven, which visitors can enter through a demon's mouth.Visitors can explore the park's tranquil setting, admire the detailed sculptures, and even climb some of the structures for panoramic views. The park provides a serene escape and a glimpse into the unique vision of its creator.
