Bicycle
From the center of Savannakhet, rent a bicycle from one of the local shops. Head west on Rue Chao Anou (the main road). Continue straight for about 10 kilometers until you reach the Mekong River. Turn right and follow the riverbank north for approximately 5 kilometers. Look for signs or ask locals for directions to Tham Nong Pa Fa, which is located near the Thakhek area. The cave entrance is marked by a small path leading up from the river.
Public Bus
Take a local bus from Savannakhet's main bus station towards Thakhek. The buses run frequently, so check the schedule for the next departure. The journey will take about 1.5 hours. Once you reach Thakhek, ask the bus driver or locals for directions to Tham Nong Pa Fa. It is approximately a 20-minute walk from the bus station to the cave entrance. Head north along the main road and look for signs indicating the cave.
Tuk-Tuk
Find a tuk-tuk near the Savannakhet market or main street. Negotiate the fare with the driver to take you to Tham Nong Pa Fa in Thakhek. The ride should take about an hour. Make sure to specify 'Tham Nong Pa Fa' so the driver knows your destination. Once you arrive, the entrance to the cave is a short walk from where the tuk-tuk drops you off.
Walking
For adventurous travelers, you can walk from central Savannakhet to Tham Nong Pa Fa. Start by heading west on Rue Chao Anou. After approximately 10 kilometers, reach the Mekong River and then walk along the riverbank heading north. This route is scenic but requires good walking shoes and hydration. The total distance is around 15 kilometers, and it may take 3-4 hours, so plan accordingly.
