Travel Guide to Xieng Liap Cave

Getting There

• Bicycle

  From the center of Thakhek, rent a bicycle from one of the local shops. Head southeast on Avenue Lane Xang toward the Mekong River. Once you reach the river, turn left and follow the riverbank for about 5 kilometers until you reach the intersection with Route 12. Turn right onto Route 12 and continue for another 10 kilometers. Look for signs to Xieng Liap Cave and follow the local paths leading to the cave entrance.

• Walking

  If you prefer to walk, start from the main market area in Thakhek. Walk along Avenue Lane Xang heading southeast towards the Mekong River. Once you reach the river, turn left and walk along the riverbank. It’s about a 5-kilometer walk to the intersection with Route 12. From there, you will need to continue walking along Route 12 for approximately 10 kilometers. Keep an eye out for signs directing you to Xieng Liap Cave. Be prepared for a long walk, and consider bringing water and snacks.

• Motorbike rental

  In Thakhek, rent a motorbike from one of the local rental services. Start your journey by heading southeast on Avenue Lane Xang towards the Mekong River. Once you reach the river, turn left and follow the riverbank for about 5 kilometers until you hit Route 12. Turn right onto Route 12 and continue straight for about 10 kilometers. Look for the signs indicating the direction to Xieng Liap Cave, and follow the local paths leading to the cave entrance.

• Tuk-Tuk

  From the center of Thakhek, find a tuk-tuk driver and negotiate a fare to take you to Xieng Liap Cave. The driver will likely take you southeast along Avenue Lane Xang toward the Mekong River. After reaching the river, you’ll continue along Route 12 for about 10 kilometers. Ensure you communicate clearly to the driver that your destination is Xieng Liap Cave, so they can navigate appropriately.
