This sacred site is considered one of the most important religious monuments in Laos and is believed to contain relics of the Buddha.The temple's history dates back to the Sikhottabong Kingdom, with the stupa possibly originating as early as the 6th century. Over the centuries, it has undergone several renovations, most notably in the 16th century during the reign of King Saysetthathirath, who reconstructed it to cover the original stupa. The architecture showcases the Lan Xang style, featuring a tall, gilded spire that reaches a height of 29 meters. The base of the stupa is formed with four sides, adorned in gold and white hues, while the top is shaped like a banana flower.Visitors can explore the temple grounds, which include a vihara housing an impressive golden Buddha statue built by King Chao Anouvong. The temple complex provides a serene atmosphere for contemplation and reflection, with beautiful sculptures and traditional Laotian motifs enhancing its spiritual ambiance.
