Getting There

  • Bicycle

    From the center of Thakhek, rent a bicycle from one of the local shops. Start your journey by heading south on Avenue Lane Xang. Follow the road for approximately 3 kilometers until you reach the fork at the intersection. Take the right fork onto Route 13, which is a main road that leads toward the direction of Xiangliab. Continue on Route 13 for about 8 kilometers, passing through small villages and enjoying the scenic countryside. As you approach the Xiangliab area, keep an eye out for the sign indicating Tham Nang Aen Cave. The cave entrance is located just off the main road, and you will need to take a small path leading towards the cave entrance, which is about 500 meters from the road.

  • Tuk-tuk

    To get to Tham Nang Aen Cave, find a tuk-tuk at one of the popular spots in Thakhek, such as near the morning market or the bus station. Negotiate the fare before getting in; it should be around 40,000 to 60,000 LAK for the trip. Inform the driver that you want to go to Tham Nang Aen Cave. The driver will take you south on Avenue Lane Xang and then merge onto Route 13. The trip takes approximately 30 minutes. Once you arrive, the tuk-tuk can drop you off at the entrance path to the cave, approximately 500 meters from Route 13, where you will see the signage for Tham Nang Aen Cave.

    If you enjoy walking, you can start from the center of Thakhek. Head south along Avenue Lane Xang and continue straight until you reach the main intersection. From the intersection, proceed along Route 13 towards Xiangliab. This route is approximately 11 kilometers and will take about 2-3 hours, depending on your pace. Be sure to take breaks and enjoy the views along the way. As you near Xiangliab, look for signs that indicate the Tham Nang Aen Cave entrance, which is about 500 meters off the road. It's advisable to wear comfortable shoes and bring water, as the walk is through open and sometimes uneven terrain.
