Getting there

Walking

From Vang Vieng town center, follow the Nam Song road south. Pass Jam Mee Guesthouse and continue to Vang Vieng Resort. Pay 2,000 LAK to cross the bridge. Follow the steps up to the cave entrance. The walk from town takes about 20 minutes.

Tuk-Tuk

Hire a tuk-tuk from Vang Vieng town center. Negotiate the fare before starting your journey. The tuk-tuk will take you to the entrance of Vang Vieng Resort. From there, cross the bridge (2,000 LAK) and ascend the steps to Jang Cave.

Tham Jang Cave, also known as Jang Cave, is a captivating destination located near Vang Vieng in Laos. This cave has played a significant role in the region's history, serving as a shelter, hiding place, and place of worship for centuries. In the early 19th century, it was used as a bunker to defend against marauding Yunnanese Chinese invaders. The name 'Jang' means 'steadfast,' reflecting its historical use as a defensive site.Inside the cave, you'll discover ancient chambers adorned with stalactites and stalagmites that have formed over millennia. The cave is well-lit and has stairs, making it easy to explore. A spring is located about 50 meters inside the cave.Beyond the cave itself, a viewpoint offers breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding karst limestone mountains and lush countryside. The area around the cave also provides opportunities for nature walks, allowing visitors to appreciate the natural beauty of the Lao countryside. Historically, the cave has been used as a site for Buddhist meditation and worship. Monks and devotees sought solitude and enlightenment within its tranquil confines.
