Ho Phra Keo, also known as Haw Phra Kaew, stands as a significant landmark in Vientiane, Laos. Originally constructed in 1565 by King Setthathirath, it served as the royal temple and housed the revered Emerald Buddha. The temple's establishment coincided with King Setthathirath's decision to move the capital from Luang Prabang to Vientiane, underscoring its importance as both a religious and political symbol.Following a Siamese invasion in 1779, the Emerald Buddha was taken to Bangkok, and the temple suffered destruction during subsequent conflicts. It was rebuilt in 1942 during the French colonial period and, in the 1970s, transformed into a museum. Today, Ho Phra Keo houses an impressive collection of Buddhist sculptures, artifacts, and Lao art, providing visitors with insights into the country's cultural and religious heritage.
