Koknese Castle, or what remains of it, stands as a testament to the turbulent history of Latvia. Founded in 1209 by Bishop Albert of Riga, the stone castle replaced an earlier wooden fort. Getting There

Train
From Riga Central Station, take a train to Koknese Station. Direct trains run approximately every 4 hours and the journey takes about 1 hour and 21 minutes. From Koknese Station, it's about a 15-minute walk to the castle ruins. Follow Hanzas Street to the A6 highway, cross 1905 street, and continue towards the river. Train fare: Approximately €4-€6 one way.

Take a bus from Riga International Bus Station (Rīgas SAO) to Koknese. Buses depart approximately every 2 hours and the journey takes about 1 hour and 41 minutes. From the Koknese bus stop, walk along the A6 highway for about 5 minutes, then turn right onto 1905.gada iela. The Koknese Tourist Information Center will be visible from there.
