Vīgantes Parks: A Sanctuary of History and Nature

Vīgantes Parks, situated near the former Vīgante manor on the Daugava's left bank, offers visitors a blend of natural beauty and historical intrigue. Established in the 19th and early 20th centuries, the park was once part of the Vīgante estate. The manor house was destroyed in 1905, but the park's legacy lives on. In 1966, the construction of the Pļaviņas Hydro Power Plant led to the partial flooding of the park, forever altering its landscape. Despite this, Vīgantes Parks retains its charm, with 41 exotic tree species still flourishing within its 10 hectares. Remnants of the past, such as interconnected ponds used for the manor's brewery, can still be seen. Visitors can explore walking trails, view the sculpture "Daina" (a copy of the original, which is in Sigulda park), and visit a gazebo dedicated to composer Pēteris Barisons, who was closely associated with the park's cultural events and song festivals. The park also features wooden sculptures of Jancis and Mārčs, characters from Valdis's book "Staburaga bērni". Vīgantes Parks provides a tranquil setting to reflect on Latvia's history and natural beauty.
