Cirgalu Tower: A Window to Northern Gauja

Cirgalu Tower, constructed in 2015, is situated in the protected landscape area of Ziemeļgauja in Zvārtava Parish, Valka Municipality. This 27-meter-high observation tower provides visitors with breathtaking views of the Gauja River, its winding curves, and the surrounding meadows and forests. The landscape is characterized by a blend of forests, meadows and the meandering Gauja river.The tower is located approximately 4.5 km from the bridge over the Gauja on the Valka-Vireši road (P23). The surrounding area, Ziemeļgauja, is a protected area recognized for its biodiversity, including various protected plant and animal species. The area features a unique mosaic of habitats, including the Gauja River valley with its system of oxbow lakes, biologically valuable meadows, and old mixed and deciduous forests.Visitors can enjoy leisurely walks along well-maintained paths, providing a deeper connection with the local ecosystem. The tower is a popular destination, attracting around 3,000 visitors annually. It is often included in routes that also feature the Cirgaļu sand dunes, Zvārtava Manor, and the Kokšu Lake walking trail. While offering stunning views, the metal grid underfoot at the top of the tower can be unsettling for some.
