Gauja: A Culinary Gem in the Heart of Riga

Getting There

• Car

  If you are traveling by car, start your journey from the center of Riga. Head east on Stabu iela towards Brīvības iela. Continue straight until you reach the intersection with Kr. Valdemāra iela. Turn right onto Kr. Valdemāra iela and then take a left onto the A2 highway towards Sigulda. Follow the A2 for approximately 50 kilometers until you reach the town of Sigulda. Once in Sigulda, follow the signs to the Gauja National Park, which is a short drive from the town center. Parking is available at various points within the park, but be prepared for parking fees that can range from €2 to €5 depending on the area.

• Public Transportation

  For those using public transportation, take a bus or train from Riga to Sigulda. Buses leave frequently from the Riga International Bus Station (autoosta) and the journey takes about 1 hour. Tickets cost approximately €5. Alternatively, you can take a train from Riga Central Station to Sigulda; the train journey takes around 1.5 hours and tickets also cost about €5. Once you arrive in Sigulda, you can either walk to the Gauja National Park (approximately a 20-minute walk) or take a local taxi which may cost around €10.

• Bicycle

  For the adventurous, biking from Riga to Gauja National Park is an option. Rent a bicycle in Riga and follow the bike paths that lead towards Sigulda. The route is scenic and takes you through several charming towns and landscapes. The total distance is about 50 km, so plan for a ride of approximately 3-5 hours depending on your pace. Be sure to pack water and snacks, and check the weather conditions before you leave.
