Get off at the Ēdole stop. From there, walk east on Pils iela for about 10 minutes until you reach the castle. A one-way bus ticket costs approximately €1-€2.

    If driving from Kuldīga, head southwest on Rīgas iela towards Liepājas iela/A9. Continue on A9 for about 18 kilometers (approximately 15 minutes) until you see the exit for Ēdole. Take the exit and follow the signs to Ēdole. Once in Ēdole, turn onto Pils iela, and you will find Ēdole Castle at Pils iela 1. Free parking is available near the castle.

Ēdole Castle, or Ēdoles pils, is a captivating landmark in the Kuldīga Municipality of Latvia. Originally constructed between 1264 and 1267 for the bishop of Piltene, the castle has undergone numerous transformations, reflecting various architectural styles and historical periods.Initially, the castle comprised two residential buildings connected by a stone wall. Over the centuries, it expanded and was rebuilt, most notably in the Gothic Revival style during the 19th century. From 1561 to 1920, the castle was owned by the Baltic-German Baron von Behr and his descendants. The castle suffered damage during the Russian Revolution of 1905 but was subsequently restored with its Gothic features preserved.Today, Ēdole Castle is more than just a historical site; it's a living monument. Visitors can explore the Medieval Castle Museum, which features exhibits in the white, red, and green halls, the library, and the tower's round room. The castle also houses a Fairy Tale Kingdom with 20 exhibitions dedicated to Latvian folk tales. From the castle tower, you can enjoy views of Temple Hill, the mill pond, and the Vanka River valley. The castle hosts concerts, exhibitions, and events, and its courtyard was featured in the film “Emīla nedarbi”.
