Discover more about Jasmuiža, Raiņa muzejs

The Rainis Museum “Jasmuiža” is located in a tranquil rural setting on the banks of the Jaša River in Aizkalne Parish. It is the only museum dedicated to Rainis in the Latgale region. The museum complex consists of three reconstructed buildings of the Jasmuiža manor and the reconstructed workshop of the Latgalian ceramics master Andrejs Paulāns. From 1883 to 1891, the future poet Rainis spent his summers at Jasmuiža while his father leased the estate. It was here that Rainis experienced his first love, a servant girl named Tekla. The museum features an exhibit in the reconstructed manor house about Rainis's gymnasium and university years. The former cattle barn houses a large exhibit of Latgalian ceramics, displaying over 200 household and decorative items. Visitors can also explore Andrejs Paulāns' workshop to learn about the environment of Latgalian ceramists in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The museum hosts seasonal opening events, pottery firing ceremonies, and annual poetry events.
