From the Daugavpils city center, you can walk to the Rothko Museum. Head south on Rīgas iela, continue until you reach Mihaila iela, and turn left. The museum is located at Mihaila iela 3, approximately 10 minutes down the road on your right. There are no costs associated with walking.

Take tram number 3 to the Cietoksnis (Fortress) stop. The Rothko Museum is located within the Daugavpils Fortress, a short walk from the tram stop. A single tram ticket costs approximately €0.70 [Ecolines].

The Rothko Museum, located within the historic Daugavpils Fortress, is a vibrant center for art, culture, and education. As one of the most ambitious cultural projects in Eastern Europe, the museum serves as a tribute to Mark Rothko, the celebrated abstract expressionist and color field painter who was born in Daugavpils. The museum's location within the Daugavpils Fortress, the only early 19th-century bastion-type fortress in Eastern Europe that remains largely unchanged, adds a layer of historical significance to the visitor experience. The majestic architecture of the former artillery arsenal complements the contemporary art on display. The Rothko Museum holds the distinction of being the only place in Eastern Europe where visitors can view original paintings by Mark Rothko. Besides the permanent Rothko exhibition, the museum hosts four exhibition seasons each year, showcasing up to 30 different projects across 2,500 square meters of gallery space. These exhibitions feature a diverse range of local and international art, reflecting current trends and developments. In addition to its gallery spaces, the Rothko Museum offers a range of facilities, including a concert hall, conference sector, residence rooms for artists, and a children's area. Visitors can also explore the Martinsons House, an additional gallery space that features the ceramic works of Pēteris Martinsons, and an open-storage chamber displaying contemporary ceramics from the museum's collection.
